2011 Glammy Award Winners Announced
HTTP://FIERTH.COM – The 2011 Glammy awards were presented last night at Splash Bar giving the full on force of the glitz and glam that is NYC Nightlife. A dizzying blur of sequins and stilettos filled the room where legends, ladies and learners were entertained by several dazzling performances, including the talented Dallas Dubois, the ever amazing Backspace, Xelle’s Goddess moment and the fiery pyrotechnic infused spectacle that Peppermint brought to the stage. Hosted by nightlife legend Michael Musto, birthday girl Amanda Lepore and the acid tongued Bianca Del Rio, kept the crowd entertained and the show moving. FierthTV had a pop up studio where nominees and scene queens were interviewed; Full Video coming soon stay tuned .

HTTP://FIERTH.COM – In Pictures: July 4th Weekend on fire Island : Drag Invasion –In 1976, a visitor in drag was denied entry to a restaurant in the Fire Island Pines, an oceanfront island community east of New York City. When a group of his friends from the neighboring town of Cherry Grove heard what had happened, they too dressed up in drag and returned to the Pines by water taxi on July 4, 1976, staging what would become the first annual drag “invasion.”
Thirty years later, the annual Fourth of July Invasion of the Pines now attracts hundreds of drag queens and thousands of spectators to what has become the most spectacular and unusual Fourth of July event anywhere

STUDDING THE INTERN - We were really excited this week when we got a new line of men’s clothing in called Stud Muffin from New York designer Kyle Brincefield. So excited, in fact, that we decided to dress our intern, Tyler, in the studded garb. Tyler is a sweet young gentleman from Kentucky, who just moved here January 1st. So of course we loved seeing him in the studded shorts, vest, and mask. We put him in a pair of patched up underwear by Tom-Tom… just because we could :)

It draws examples from the full range of the Western tradition, including classical, Renaissance, and contemporary art, with special focus on the modern era. It was in the modern period, when arguments about homosexuality and the avant-garde were especially public, that our current conception of the artist and the homosexual began to take shape, and almost as quickly to overlap. Not a chronology of gay or lesbian artists, the book is a fascinating and sophisticated account of the ways two conspicuous identities have fundamentally informed one another.
Art and Homosexuality discusses many of modernism’s canonical figures—painters like Courbet, Picasso, and Pollock; writers like Whitman and Stein—and issues, such as the rise of abstraction, the avant-garde’s relationship to its patrons and the political exploitation of art. It shows that many of the core ideas that define modernism are nearly indecipherable without an understanding of the paired identities of artist and homosexual.
