Emmy award winning actress/singer Mare Winnigham’s star is on the rise (again!) Familiar to audiences from movies such as St. Elmo’s Fire, Turner and Hooch and Georgia (for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress);  television viewers know her from her appearance on American Horror Story: Coven as ‘Alicia Spencer’, zombie-boy Kyle’s creepy Mom. Ms. Winningham has just been nominated for a Tony Award (Best Featured Actress in a Play) for her work in Harvey Fierstein’s new play ‘Casa Valentina’. Get into Mare Winningham!

MARE:  Mare

MARE:  New York.

MARE:  Look for the best in others

FIERTH: ​How do you describe your work?
MARE:  I play act. I get to imagine what different people might feel in different situations, and how behavior corresponds to truth.

MARE:  Any of my inhibitions.

FIERTH: ​What accomplishment are you most proud of ?
MARE:  In my work, longevity.

MARE:  I get to collaborate with talented people.

MARE:  Privately

MARE:  Yes. I turned to family and friends.

MARE:  Night Mare

MARE:  My friends are smart, loving, generous, and kind

MARE:  1. the feel of nail polish freaks me out but I’m wearing it for the play
2. I still have my 1970’s albums
3. I get too enthusiastic about mealtimes
4. fluorescent lighting upsets me
5. I still have to count on my fingers 8+5. That one always gets me.

FIERTH: ​What were you like as a child?
MARE:  They say I loved a good cry. (sounds like I was a pain in the butt)

MARE:  In the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles.

FIERTH: ​What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
MARE:  I lied about boys.

MARE:  Spent hours in Color Me Mine, alone.

MARE:  Probably. I don’t wanna know.

FIERTH: ​What were you doing last night at Midnight?
MARE:  Reading the New York Times.

FIERTH: ​What do you daydream about?
MARE: …love, and being loved.

MARE:  To repair the world.

MARE:  Smiling.

MARE:  I can’t find my navy blue car coat. Where is it.

MARE:  Eating out

MARE:   Wine

MARE:  A New York apartment.

MARE:  My mom and dad, my kids

MARE:  ..people do the sweetest things…just yesterday my daughter left a penned self portrait with a farewell love note for me to find when I came home to an empty apt…

FIERTH: ​Which places have you traveled to that you feel had changed your perspective of the world ?
MARE:  Israel, Romania, Istanbul

MARE:  Play some music shows in support of my new record with Jack Walter,  What’s Left Behind
