Fierth i-ON Interview with DANIEL NARDICIO
Daniel Nardicio makes things happen. Whether he is presiding over his longest running and largest east coast underwear party at the Ice Palace in Cherry Grove , or bringing Liza Minnelli back to Broadway after two summer sold out shows; Daniel gets it done. Remember Lady Gaga on Fire Island or Levi Johnston in Playgirl. Yeah he did that too. His passion is your party, Get to know, Daniel Nardicio.
FIERTH: What is your name?
FIERTH: Do you have a nick-name?
NARDICIO: They called me “the Can Opener” in college.
FIERTH: Where are you based, where do you call home?
NARDICIO: Williamsburg Brooklyn, with my best friend Nick, and my cat Anderson.
FIERTH: How tall are you?
NARDICIO: 6ft 1” but I’m so loud people think I’m 6’4”
FIERTH: What is your motto?
NARDICIO: It used to be ‘I’d rather ask for forgiveness than permission” but then I said that in a few interviews and now everyone’s using it. Now it’s more specific: “When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized God doesn’t work that way, so I stole one and prayed for forgiveness.”
FIERTH: How do you describe your work?
NARDICIO: I’m a shameless show boater, the David Merrick of Dick, a producer and developer of ideas.
FIERTH: What about your work frustrates you?
NARDICIO: People not returning calls makes me crazy.
FIERTH: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
NARDICIO: I really feel I’ve made a difference in people’s nightlife experience. I’ve created something out of nothing, and people respond to it- it’s very satisfying.
FIERTH: What do you like most about what you do?
NARDICIO: I get to make shit up all day! I talk with almost all my idols! They like me! Who could ask for anything more?
FIERTH: How do you keep it real?
NARDICIO: I spend very little time out, amongst people. I’m a hugely private extrovert. I meditate like fucking Buddha.
FIERTH: What is the secret to success?
NARDICIO: Don’t ask yourself EVER if you’re good enough. You probably aren’t, and frankly, that doesn’t matter. I always say: “Madonna is the world’s most famous singer- and she can’t sing!” do worrying about being good enough is a waste of time. Worrying is just praying for what you don’t want anyway.
FIERTH: If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
NARDICIO: I am learning to play banjo. When I do, I’ll be a perfect man: a big dicked daddy who can play Country- I mean, CMON?
FIERTH: What exactly are you wearing right now?
NARDICIO: A shirt that says “Mr. Lucky” I got in Montreal and jeans from Nasty Pig- plus free undies from Underwear
FIERTH: What motivates you in life?
NARDICIO: A huge lust for experiencing everything~ fear of missing out. FOMO
FIERTH: If you weren’t doing what you are doing now, what do you think you would be doing?
NARDICIO: I always find this question awkward. I wouldn’t do anything else- I love this. BUT, if I totally failed at it, I’d move to New Orleans, get fat, meet a sweet guy and open a shop- I’d have as Franny said in Franny and Zooey: “the courage to be nobody”
FIERTH: Have you ever felt hopeless? How did you get through it?
NARDICIO: Every fucking day it hits me like a crow sitting at the foot of my bed. But I do the next right action, and move on.
FIERTH: If someone wrote a biography on your life, what do you think the title should be?
NARDICIO: Turning Rectums into Rec Rooms since 1984!
FIERTH: How would your best friend describe you?
NARDICIO: I’ll ask him (hold on): Loud, dominating, enthusiastic, mostly naked, loyal, untidy.
FIERTH: What are some qualities you value in your friends?
NARDICIO: I need them to keep secrets and they do. I love it when there’s NO sexual chemistry. I like people who are game for doing stuff.
FIERTH: List 5 quirky things about yourself.
NARDICIO: I mimic everyone, but can only do it to boyfriends. If you asked me to do someone now, I’d suck. But with a guy I love, I’m a comic genius.
I love seediness.
I drive a Playgirl Van.
I hate museums.
I listen to Tony Robbins when I am down.
FIERTH: What were you like as a child?
NARDICIO: Quiet, shy, very withdrawn. My mother was always the center of attention- god I’ve made up for that haven’t I?
FIERTH: Where did you grow up?
NARDICIO: A small town in Ohio
FIERTH: What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
NARDICIO: I had sex with a neighbor kid, and my parents found us. My dad freaked out and screamed: “did he whack you up the shitter?” which is still the oddest comment ever uttered to me.
FIERTH: The kids today …
NARDICIO: Like their phones too much.
FIERTH: What makes you angry?
NARDICIO: God the list goes on. Rude people, people who don’t call back, disloyal friends (hey Matthew!), people who are cruel to kids or animals.
FIERTH: What brings you the most joy?
FIERTH: What’s the strangest thing you’ve done this month?
NARDICIO: Talked with Liza Minnelli.
FIERTH: What’s something about yourself that no one knows?
NARDICIO: All of the above- this interview is the most real I’ve ever been. I can die now.
FIERTH: Ever had a rumor spread about you?
NARDICIO: Someone was telling people I was knowingly giving people HIV and I’m HIV Negative!!! GRRRRRRRR
FIERTH: Describe a time when you made the best of a public gaffe.
NARDICIO: I flirted with a Pines boy last summer and he totally gave me attitude, so I yelled: “don’t be so picky. I wasn’t”, I was pretty proud of that rebound.
FIERTH: What is the worst advice you have ever gotten?
NARDICIO: my mother told me I should stay working as a bag boy for Kroger’s instead of moving out of Ohio
FIERTH: Are you a morning or night person?
FIERTH: What were you doing last night at Midnight?
NARDICIO: jacking off to cream pie porn (straight) – like I said I’m being very honest here
FIERTH: What do you daydream about?
NARDICIO: My New Orleans boyfriend, being in love again, Fire Island, travelling.
FIERTH: What do you think is the meaning of life?
NARDICIO: To do.
FIERTH: What is your beauty secret?
NARDICIO: I laugh a lot- it creates lines but I think laughing people are so sexy.
FIERTH: What would be the introduction song to a movie based on your life?
NARDICIO: That Dolly Parton song with the lyric: “he’s got big ideas and a little behind”
FIERTH: Describe your home in 6 words or less.
NARDICIO: Comfy. Chaotic. Laughter filled. Sodom Gomorrah.
FIERTH: Do you collect anything?
FIERTH: Do you have any obsessions right now?
NARDICIO: See cream pie porn.
FIERTH: What’s the weirdest item you’ve ever mourned losing?
NARDICIO: I found a pair of false teeth once on the floor of a party- I really liked those and thought they had meaning. I still miss them.
FIERTH: What is your greatest extravagance?
NARDICIO: I’m so not extravagant- probably a cleaning woman- I feel so BOUGIE!
FIERTH: What is your guilty pleasure?
NARDICIO: John Denver!
FIERTH: If you could buy anything regardless of cost, what would you buy?
NARDICIO: That 21 Million dollar apt in Chelsea with a pool in the basement- I would LOVE to have pool parties there.
FIERTH: What is your “Safety Word”?
FIERTH: You can trade places with any other person, living or dead, for 24 hours. Who would you choose and why?
NARDICIO: I’d love to be Madonna for a day. I’d go to Filene’s basement and really humiliate her when I give the body back- wear Mom jeans, fuck a homeless man…lol
FIERTH: Who are your main inspirations?
NARDICIO: Leo Buscaglia was a Dr. of Love, who taught me the meaning of Love.
FIERTH: Who do you have your eye on right now?
NARDICIO: Frankie Sharp is fun, but honestly I don’t go out much so I don’t know.
FIERTH: Which stars, if any, leave you star struck?
NARDICIO: I still sit across from Liza and go: “You’re Judy Garland’s daughter!”, And Courtney Love came to an event of mine once and I gushed. LOVE her.
FIERTH: Whom do you despise?
NARDICIO: My old business partner Todd Sowers.
FIERTH: Which celebrity do you suspect is actually a hologram?
NARDICIO: Beyonce. She’s a machine.
FIERTH: What’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever done for you?
NARDICIO: A Friend really helped me out recently with a project and I cannot express how happy this made me.
FIERTH: Which causes do you believe in the most in, and why?
NARDICIO: I’ve heard, that you can judge a society by the way it treats its animals. I feel for them.
FIERTH: What is the funniest joke you have ever heard?
NARDICIO: Sandy Kane the stripper and naked Cowgirl said to me once: “Dan my Doctor asked me for a blood sample, a urine sample and a stool sample- so I gave him my G-string” I die.
FIERTH: What are you going to do next?
NARDICIO: Haven’t I done enough for you people ?
FIERTH: Leave us a quote to carry on with:
NARDICIO: “Give me health and a day, and I will make the pomp of emperors ridiculous.”
FIERTH: How can we find out more about you?
