Fierth i-ON Interview : MUNROE BERGDORF
Fierth sits down with East London’s Soho Princess and DJ – Munroe Bergdorf, Take a taste of her crumpet as she spills the T.
FIERTH: What is your name?
FIERTH: Do you have a nick-name?
MUNROE: Friends tend to call me Munny Bee or M
FIERTH: Where are you based , where do you call home ?
MUNROE: I’m based in East London, but I call the Hertfordshire countryside where I was raised home. It’s about 45 minutes north of London, very beautiful, think Downton Abbey.
FIERTH: How tall are you?
MUNROE: I’m quite small actually, 5ft7, everyone thinks I’m taller because I’m always wearing ridiculous heels.
FIERTH: What is your motto?
MUNROE: Always be a unicorn.
FIERTH: How do you describe your work?
MUNROE: I primarily work as a DJ but I also work with fashion and makeup brands on a creative level.
FIERTH: What about your work frustrates you ?
MUNROE: Long hours and people in fashion and entertainment aren’t always the easiest to work with. Lots of egos to balance.
FIERTH: What accomplishment are you most proud of ?
MUNROE: Probably my most recent clothing line with Organic Pirate. I think we’ve produced something really wearable and current.
FIERTH: What do you like most about what you do?
MUNROE: Creative freedom and I don’t need to answer to anyone but myself. I’m not good at being barked orders, I tend to bite back…
FIERTH: How do you keep it real?
MUNROE: Never work on a Sunday and make sure you surround yourself with people who are good for you.
FIERTH: What is the secret to success ?
MUNROE: Don’t worry about what other people are doing, focus on bettering yourself. Jealousy get’s you nowhere…
FIERTH: If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
MUNROE: OMG I wish I was better at Maths. Haha. I’m AWFUL with numbers.
FIERTH: What exactly are you wearing right now?
MUNROE: Right now I’m sat in a cafe in Notting Hill wearing black All Saints skinny jeans, a sheer top from Reiss, huge Marc Jacobs sunnies and lots of cheap Topshop jewellery haha.
FIERTH: What motivates you in life?
MUNROE: My mother. I admire her equally as much as she frustrates the living daylights out of me. I think I inherited my ambition and hard work ethic from her. She always pushed me to be the best I could throughout my life even if we don’t see eye to eye ALL the time.
FIERTH: If you weren’t doing what you are doing now, what do you think you would be doing?
MUNROE: Hmmmm. Probably working at a magazine or doing in PR like i was before I started working for myself. I wouldn’t be happy though, the 9-5 grind isn’t for me.
FIERTH: Have you ever felt hopeless? How did you get through it?
MUNROE: Oh yes… Round about when i was 20-22 I had a very tough time. I think at times like those you just really need friends, good food and perspective. I was lucky to have all 3. For those who don’t, I’m a great believer in the saying ‘everything has a way of sorting itself out’. Nothing happens by sitting on your ass and waiting though, YOU have to be the catalyst if you want change.
FIERTH: If someone wrote a biography on your life , what do you think the title should be?
MUNROE: Oh god I don’t know… I’m not done yet, we’re nowhere NEAR biography time…
FIERTH: How would your best friend describe you?
MUNROE: Driven probably. Hardworking? A good friend…
FIERTH: What are some qualities you value in your friends ?
MUNROE: Loyalty, trust and honesty really. You can’t ask for much else.
FIERTH: List 5 quirky things about yourself.
MUNROE: I can’t sleep properly without the dishwasher on, I find it really soothing.
I’m a bit obsessed with pictures of mermaids and unicorns on Tumblr
I have 4 tattoo’s dedicated to Alice In Wonderland. Obsessed doesn’t even come close.
I used to be a competitive swimmer and 11th in the country at one point.
My Dad used to work for the Queen.
FIERTH: What were you like as a child?
MUNROE: A nightmare… Horrid. Let’s leave it at that.
FIERTH: Where did you grow up ?
MUNROE: In the English countryside. Very beautiful but difficult for a mixed race girly boy to grow up. Not the most forward thinking of places…
FIERTH: What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
MUNROE: EVERYTHING. I acted out a lot. Mainly out of frustration of being different I think… Anyway, I snapped out of it haha.
FIERTH: My generation was …
MUNROE: BRIT POP, THE SPICE GIRLS, MY LITTLE PONY, TROLLS, THUNDERCATS, SISTERSISTER AND MOESHA!!!!
FIERTH: The kids today …
MUNROE: I feel sorry for ’em… We live in a much less innocent time.
FIERTH: What makes you angry ?
MUNROE: Ignorance and people that think they know it all.
FIERTH: What brings you the most joy?
MUNROE: Being at home with my animals in front of an open fire.
FIERTH: What is the worst advice you have ever gotten ?
MUNROE: Shave your head, you’ll look amazing…
FIERTH: Are you a morning or night person ?
MUNROE: A night person, I’m vile in the mornings.
FIERTH: What were you doing last night at Midnight?
MUNROE: I had the night off last night actually so I was tucked up in bed with a tub of ice cream watching Emily Owens MD lol. Obsessed with that show.
FIERTH: What do you daydream about?
MUNROE: Unicorns, mostly.
FIERTH: What do you think is the meaning of life ?
MUNROE: To live, love and experience as much as possible.
FIERTH: What is your beauty secret ?
MUNROE: Never use cheap makeup… You get what you pay for.

MUNROE: Flowers on Valentines day never gets old.
FIERTH: Do you believe in karma?
MUNROE: ABSOLUTELY. Every day, everything is energy… If you put bad energy out there it has to go somewhere and no good can come of it.
FIERTH: Which places have you traveled to that you feel had changed your perspective of the world ?
MUNROE: I always love staying in New York. I don’t visit enough…
FIERTH: What are you going to do next?

FIERTH: Leave us a quote to carry on with :
