Joshua Nelson is a NYC based actor, writer and filmmaker, whose projects include the films ‘Pink Eye’, ‘Skinned Alive’ and ‘Baby Fat’; he has also recently appeared on NBC’s ‘Law & Order’ and Comedy Central’s ‘Black Jack’ television series.

Fierth:             What is your name?

Joshua Nelson

Fierth:            Do you have a nick-name?

Joshua:                      My wife calls me an asshole but I’m not very fond of that nickname

Fierth:            How tall are you?

Joshua:                      5’10

Fierth:            What is your motto?

Joshua:                      “Laziness will cause you pain”

Fierth:            What exactly are you wearing right now?

Joshua:                      Grey sweatpants and a KISS shirt…(the band kiss)

Fierth:            List 5 quirky things about yourself.


-I do Indian accents out loud around my house

-I will watch the TV show Hill Street Blues even if it comes on at 4am

-If I get a nose bleed I pretend I’m in a film and just got beaten up

-When I play Gorilla with my kids, I am very impressed how well I do it

-I am terrified of any girl names Regan because of The Exorcist.

Fierth:            How do you keep it real?

Joshua:                        I don’t, I’m an actor…

Fierth:            What were you like as a child?

Joshua:                      Overactive imagination, always a performer and horror film fan, since I was like 2.

Fierth:            What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?

Joshua:                      Honestly, I never got in trouble as a kid…I was a very good boy. My troubles started when I started dating.

Fierth:            Where did you grow up?

Joshua:                      Born and raised in The Bronx, NY.

Fierth:            As a teenager where did you think you would be now?

Joshua:                      SUPER famous…with 2 daughters…I have 1 daughter and 1 son…and still hoping on the fame.

Fierth:            How would your best friend describe you?

Joshua:                      A motivational, creative leader.

Fierth:            What are some qualities you value in your friends?

Joshua:                      Humor, talent, loyalty…

Fierth:            Describe a time/event in your life that you’re nostalgic for.

Joshua:                      My first acting job…it was a TV show in Los Angeles starring opposite the late Corey Haim…I miss those days every day of my life.

Fierth:            Where are you based; where do you call home?

Joshua:                      I live inSparta,NJ…we have bears that go through our garbage at night…fun!

Fierth:            Describe your home in 6 words or less

Joshua:                      Cute, neighborless, NJ suburban home.

Fierth:            Do you collect anything?

Joshua:                      Al Pacino Memorabilia to some extent…and autographs of Horror Movie celebrities.

Fierth:            What’s the weirdest item you’ve ever mourned losing?

Joshua:                      An old X-Men Coming. (it was # 94

Fierth:            What is your greatest extravagance?

Joshua:                      When I can buy myself Chinese Food…(Kids are expensive)

Fierth:            Do you have any obsessions right now?

Joshua:                      A TV show called HARDCORE PAWN

Fierth:            If you could buy anything regardless of cost, what would you buy?

Joshua:                      A huge home and new car for my family.

Fierth:            What do you think about and are the first three things you do first after waking up in the morning?

Joshua:                      I think about the endless possibilities the day an bring then, Washoff the blood, burying the body, destroying the evidence.

Fierth:            What were you doing right before this interview?

Joshua:                      Making breakfast for my kids, taking my daughter to school.

Fierth:            What is your guilty pleasure?

Joshua:                      Snowballs…the hostess cakes.

Fierth:            What is your beauty secret?

Joshua:                      I’m from Venus

Fierth:            What brings you the most joy?

Joshua:                      Super cheesy but my kids…I adore them…and work…being a working actor is still the greatest joy ever!

Fierth:            How do you describe your work?

Joshua:                      I am an actor, writer and filmmaker. Also an Acting teacher and the other jobs don’t pay very well…

Fierth:            What about your work frustrates you?

Joshua:                      Well, as an actor my main frustration is not getting enough work…When people say it’s hardest business in the world, it’s an understatement!

Fierth:            What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Joshua:                      As a filmmaker, I am most proud of my film “Skinned Alive”…I had always wanted to make a romantic comedy about a cannibal hooker…and it worked!

Fierth:            What is the secret to success? 

Joshua:                      LUCK, GOD, TALENT…in that order…yet many seem to make it without God & Talent…I am hoping hard work and dedication also count because I’m still counting on that.

Fierth:            What do you like most about what you do?

Joshua:                      Well, it’s the only thing in the world I WANT to do…and in some ways, CAN do…so the fact that I still love it after all these years is a blessing.

Fierth:            If you weren’t doing what you are doing now what do you think you would be doing instead?

Joshua:                      The only other thing I would be happy doing is being a police officer for the ASPCA, like an Animal Cop…

Fierth:            What motivates you in life?

Joshua:                      2 children to raise and an unfulfilled dream.

Fierth:            Who are your main inspirations?

Joshua:                      Al Pacino

Fierth:            Who do you have your eye on right now?

Joshua:                      2 young actors from the film “Just Go With it”…they were very good.

Fierth:            You can trade places with any other person, living or dead, for 24 hours. Who would you choose and why?

Joshua:                      Bruce Lee…just to walk into a bar and kick some ass!

Fierth:            Which celebrity do you suspect is actually a hologram?

Joshua:                      Wow…I’m not sure what this means…but perhaps Megan Fox fits into this answer…

Fierth:            What’s something about yourself that no one knows?

Joshua:                      When I was young I would read the TV guide from cover to cover.

Fierth:            What’s the strangest thing you’ve done this month?

Joshua:                      Spent far too much time at Build –A- Bear!

Fierth:            Write a brief story about an actual ‘accidental adventure’ you’ve had.

Joshua:                      Blind date through a personal ad in the Village Voice…it was…not good…And I was terrified…I don’t advise it.

Fierth:            Are you a morning or night person?

Joshua                       NIGHT!

Fierth:            What do you daydream about?

Joshua:                      Working on major feature films

Joshua:                      Just finished biography of DOG the Bounty Hunter…loved it!

Joshua:                      My wife wrote me the most amazing poem when we met…

Joshua:                      Cut your hair Joshua!

Fierth:            If you could choose a superhero power, what would it be, and how would you use it?

 Joshua:                      I think beings able to perfectly read people’s minds would be amazing…ultimately; you can get anything you want in life if used correctly.

Joshua:                      Diabetes research because it killed my Grandfather
