The first NYC LGBT Pride Rally occurred one month after the Stonewall Riots in June 1969 when 500 people gathered for a “Gay Power” demonstration in Washington Square Park. It was followed by a candlelight vigil in Sheridan Square. From 1997 to 2009, the Rally was held in Bryant Park.

Now, the 2010 Rally moved to Central Park’s SummerStage in Rumsey Field, 5th Ave and 72nd St. Hosted By Vickie Shaw & Bruce Villanch, the event saw an inspired speech by Lt. Dan Choi and Performances by The cast of Hair ,  Conedian Ian Harvie,  Ari Gold, Meshell Ndegeocello, Billie Myers & Diva Martha Wash

The event is the Official kickoff to next weekends Major Pride events.
