Breakdown with THE KIKI TWINS: Interview with ADAM BARTA
A few months ago THE KIKI TWINS had the pleasure of working on Adam Barta’s latest music video for his new single VIP. In the video, we appear in the illusions of a hair stylist and makeup artist backstage at a fashion show (can’t miss us- we’re in the very first scenes). So we thought we should sit down and ask a few questions of our friend Adam Barta seeing as how he was so kind to have us in his video. 😉
Enjoy the interview below and find details for the premiere of VIP on LOGO, Tuesday April 13 at 7pm!
Name: Adam Barta
What do you do: Recording Artist/Performer
Where are you based: NYC
1. So tell us, what is the most FIERTH about you?
My love of performing. I love taking performing beyond singing and dancing, and turning it into art: making people really react and think about what’s going on, and connecting emotionally to the music I’m making, not just singing it.
2. What type of art do you create and give a brief description?
Pop art, musically. Music that tells a story. Music that let’s you be in control, powerful and makes you move your body. The thing I love is creating a brilliant subtext to what may seem like obvious pop “fluff”. If you look at my most recent song, VIP, and really dissect it, you’ll see that it’s about fun and partying on the surface, but underneath it really is a social commentary on our society’s over-the-top focus on the material world.
3. What’s going on right now for you?
Tuesday, April 13th, my music video for my single, VIP will be premiering on the Logo network on the show Pop Lab, which airs at 7pm. It will also air on HBO Zone on the show “Feedback” towards the end of April, as well as on bpm:tv in Canada. In the following weeks, it will be on the Click List voting page, which fans can vote it on the weekly countdown on Logo. Also coming up is afterelton.com‘s annual “Hot 100” list, on which fans vote on their hot 100 male celebrities. So it would be really great if everyone could vote for me this year! I was on the list in 2008 and would love to make it again! As for performances, check my facebook and myspace pages for performance dates, as they are being added weekly.
4. What’s on your plate for the rest of 2010?
I’m collaborating on a track with Lady Gaga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is what I wish I would be saying, but hey you never know! I will be working with new producers on music for a new single this fall, and will be making an announcement on a new label. I’ll also be performing throughout the rest of the year. Check me out at Northalstead Market Days in Chicago this August! I am finally in a place with an amazing team behind me (Robyn from R*STAR doing PR and bookings and Shaun from Shakir Entertainment handling management) so the sky is the limit!!
5. Who’s on your radar? Who should we be keeping an eye on?
Two people: Valissa Yoe an AMAZING stylist. She did the costumes for the VIP music video. It will rock your socks off, trust me! Everyone’s gonna want one of her designs. And Stephan Alexander who choreographed the music video and is also a singer. He is working on new music himself. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing some of his upcoming stuff and it’s going to be BIG…!
6. What is something no one knows about you?
When I get into a video game, it’s like a good book for me that I can’t put down. I spent all day yesterday and today playing Final Fantasy XIII for PS3. Yes, I’m a video game nerd…EEK!
7. What are some of your pet peeves?
I HATE when smokers – especially in NYC – walk down a busy street blowing their smoke behind them in the faces of everyone walking past. It’s so rude and inconsiderate! And on the flip side, I’m so over seeing these disgusting images of rotted lungs and brains and arteries from these anti-smoking ads everywhere. It’s like, “We get the idea already†! Why subject non-smokers to this imagery? One night I was about to eat my dinner and saw pictures of a woman’s brain hemorrhaging. I was totally disgusted!
8. If you could be anywhere right now doing anything with anyone, tell us
where, what and who it would be.
Recording a song with Lady Gaga followed by dinner with Perez Hilton in Malibu, and continuing with a night of partying at a private grotto with a heated pool and lots of hot people!
9. Where can people find out more about you and keep up with you? (i.e.
website, facebook, twitter, etc.)
One final question…
10. Are we there yet?
Personally, I’ll never be there until I’m looking back from the finish line with the trophy.
